This course covers the fundamentals of community-oriented policing and problem-solving within policing. The course focuses initially on the history of policing and the changing nature of criminality in America, including the development of a more community-oriented government and police force. Topics include the evolution of policing, changes in crime and society, community-oriented programs, planning and implementing community-oriented policing, training personnel, managing diversity, comparing policing in America to foreign countries and some possible future avenues for community policing.
